Chuck,

1 ) Great Ideas I really like your idea about asking sponsors to plug the event on their social media or even on a community board in their shops 2 ) Agree entirely 3 ) Most 2 day stage races do the TT first since it's such an effort I think if we get the Crits moving faster with fewer categories we'll get more people to stay after Though the TT would work well since the 1st and last rider probably wouldn't be finishing to far apart so we're keeping people less time

Attached is the sponsorship document I'm working on to give you an idea of my vision I have a category for "Soigneurs," which I'm hoping will keep people around and make the event more fun while promoting mostly local businesses, primarily the crit if it's second

The document is not done, but it'll give you an idea of what I'm thinking for sponsorship

I think we really need to get the crit venue and date established so I can make a more comprehensive list of target sponsors and start reaching out to them so, in turn, they can start promoting the event

I will not be able to make the meeting today - I'm at a race outside of Lake Placid, NY

I wasn’t necessarily thinking a sponsor had to be a media member Maybe a Byrne Dairy , since chocolate milk is the new recovery drink or a Marks pizza that seems to be popping up everywhere We had Bud Poliquin do a story on the race one and we bought some time with a radio station one year and did 150 spots and a radio interview to get some interest That’s the year we had 170 kids and a very happy sponsor

OCC sounds like a great place to do a circuit race if we can pull it off Hopefully we never go in the red again And we should maybe look at 1 bike for the entire race It makes it easier for everyone Some riders would hate it but it does level the field in some ways

I will keep pushing that we need to keep the race in front if everybody We can’t be too early with anything When we have something new we should get it out so everybody including our membership is looking forward to the event It’s getting harder and harder to get participants so why not make this the one event they want to travel to

Chuck,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you

1) That's a good though although off the top of my head I'm not sure

who that would be Over the years we've contacted the Syracuse newspapers but they have had zero interest in anything to do with the race We can certainly contact the various media companies in the area I also know one of the professors up at Newhouse I'll ask if it's possible the race can be used for any of their media projects (posters, video, electronics media)

2) Absolutely For too long I've tried to be a 'nice guy' and provide

lots of races/categories for everyone (especially the ladies), but we end up with too many small categories and dead time throughout the day after combining fields As you say, we can build-in dead time at the end of the day in case we have a large number of registrations and want to break-out a few categories in to their own races

3) I have no preference whether we do the crit or TT first, but I

definitely want to include dinner on Saturday night That will give us a change to do awards, post standings, etc The trick is just finding a venue at/near a location that also has a good crit/TT course As you say, if we have a location we love, we can just have it catered A little later this month Mike and I are meeting with Onondaga Community College about the possibility of having the crit there

We can give heavy consideration to using the park and marcellus again I also want to talk to the Cazenovia chamber of commerce 3-4 years ago they expressed interest in holding a biking 'event' in town and with the new Empire Brewing in Caz, that could be a good venue too

Thanks for the thoughts and I'll send a race update to everyone this weekend

Just some thoughts I have about the 2018 race I have been doing a lot of rides with only my Strava as a companion so lots of thoughts jump into my otherwise idle mind

1 We need a sponsor that we can get the race info through out to the public They would be a partner and not necessarily have any financial involvement

2 Condense the crit into a few categories Maybe put all the low number entry categories together in one race early Then do the same with the next group of racers so we might have 5 groups going off in the first race and 4 in the next This could the easily have been done this year What I am getting at, of course, is that we can always back up a start time and that way if we have an unusually large number of entries in one category we would give them a different start time or maybe combine them with the next race This way we all get done early

3 Have the TT after the crit and have a catered party at the venue

The Park is a turn key and Marcellus has repaved the entire road surface which was the biggest objection in the past If we go back to these two venues then we don’t have a drive and both have worked in the past

These are just some thoughts I had Whether we do it this way or not or make it a one day race is irrelevant to me Maybe there is a village that would welcome the crit and TT Who knows As long as we get enough racers to break even we can always maintain the event
