Colleen,
I hold you in highest regard. You are the one person who gets things done and done right. The BoD volunteers and tries to do what is always best for the club. What I do not understand is if the BoD made a decision that effects a working committee, such as it is, then why weren’t we told.
I have always said that our race was a we’ll kept secret but the BoD even kept it a secret that they were not interested in backing it. I understand why they said what they said and I actually agree. This is no longer a full service cycling club. We have very few members who race and the culture of the club and cycling has certainly changed over the past years.
As far as having a crit and TT in the same day I can’t think of a worse idea. The crit no longer draws anybody and we can’t even get 10 people to a weekly TT.
It’s been a good run and if we are pulling the plug then we should let USAC know immediately so that the racing community can make other plans for our weekend.
Personally, I think that if we held the RR it might actually be a success.

The OCC board discussed the race a couple meetings ago and the general consensus was with the race losing money, and club members showing very little interest in it (either racing or volunteering), it might be time to pull the plug on it. Or if the time trial and crit are easy to run (and don't require as many volunteers or race officials), then maybe just do those two events on one day. -Colleen
Last January I made a trip to the Marcellus Parks commission to inquire about reserving the park for our race. They informed me that we would be one of many that day but a pavilion would be available. The fee would be $120. So far we have not paid it. And tomorrow we lose the reservation unless we get it done.
Question #1 ARE WE GOING TO PAY THE FEE?
In my memo I also mentioned an opportunity to get some of the local businesses to maybe provide some sponsorship but at this late date that seems to be a useless quest.
Question # 2 ARE WE GOING TO PAY THE FEE AND HAVE THE THE TT IN MARCELLUS?
I also contacted the local pizza shop and inquired about them supplying food for the after party.
QUESTION #3 ARE WE GOING TO PAY THE FEE AND HAVE THE TT IN MARCELLUS AND HAVE AN AFTER PARTY?
And now for the points to ponder.
#1 DO WE HAVE MUCH MONEY IN THE RACE FUND BECAUSE WE TOOK A HIT LAST YEAR.
#2 DO WE HAVE A BUDGET FOR THIS YEARS RACE ?
#3 IF WE HAVE THE SAME RIDERSHIP AS LAST YEAR THEN WHY ARE WE PUTTING ON A STAGE RACE WHEN WE COULD HAVE BETTER RESULTS WITH JUST ONE EVENT?
Like I said before I will not be at the meeting next week and this is an update I promised. Sorry for the caps but I believe that my past memos have gone unread and I wanted to make sure that somebody sees them.
As for my own opinion it’s time to shut down the omnium and make it a one day event. Either the crit which is very easy put on or the road race which will draw more participants.
The race began at the right time and prospered through what was called the “ Armstrong Effect” but it has declined in the past years. So why put ourselves through what will be a financial loser and a burden on a club that is no longer attached to racing.
Thanks, Chuck D Happy Mother’s Day
