Hi Paul! Sorry for the delay since I meant to send this over to you earlier but got caught up in a busy work day 🫨  Let us know if there's anything else you need before the Sunday Board meeting and can also do up a spreadsheet of the options if that helps ;)  We were thinking once the Board decides on a date we could maybe do some sort of Save the Date announcement on the listserve and website!

We've been asked to check out a few more places for the OCC Banquet in January. We considered places that would be easy to access and not too costly. We also chose January 22 or February 5 as the dates we would request. Below are our results/recommendations.

  • DoubleTree:They reached out to us a few days ago. We weren't going to include them in our list. As expected, although the buffet is more extensive, the price is still quite high - $49 pp with a 26% admin fee and additional gratuity
  • Sharkey's:A lot of their information is online, and the buffet price is posted as$32.50 pp + 18% gratuity for 50 people. The room fee is $175. I spoke with the event manager about the number being lower, and he indicated they would 'work with us'. Not being able to nail him down didn't make me confident in working with them.
  • Wildcat:The event manager told me we couldn't do Friday, and Wednesday would be best. The room is not private, and it seems they have crowds for sports events, so noise/privacy would be limited. I thanked her and declined.
  • Chris'Place at Foxfire: Their banquet price is based on a minimum of 50 people, $29 pp, with an added charge of $1.50 pp for fewer than 50. Room charges are added as the number of people decreases. They also charge a$40 fee for table linens. The buffet items are the usual; the room is plain. They cannot accommodate us on January 22 but can on February 5.However, on the latter date, they also have a wine club that meets monthly.
  • Dinosaur: The cost of their buffet increased by $1, which puts it currently at $32 pp before an additional 15% admin fee, 18% gratuity, $500 deposit, and $460 room/bar (3 hours) – we can bring in our own desserts.  January 22nd is available
  • Home Team Pub: Our recommendation. No price change; same agreement as this year - a spend of $1,000 waives the room fee; 10% cash discount; we can bring dessert (cookies included in buffet); they contribute a gift basket to our brown bag auction; easy to work with.  January 22 is available.
  • Barbagallo’s: They were also a bit pricey too at $38pp (though did have a nice buffet selection which included coffee, tea and dessert with soda an additional$3 per person) and 20% admin fee and then additional gratuity up to our discretion.   We would most likely be in the “Diamond” Room($350 Room Fee) and would also need to put down a $150 deposit. They ask for payment (cash, check, or card) a couple days before the event.  There is a charge for a projector ($25)and screen ($50) if we needed though no charge for a mic.  They do have availability on January 22nd.

If you need any more information, let us know, and we can provide it. We would like to advertise as soon as possible so would need to know how much the Club is willing to contribute. Hopefully we can get more people to attend this year.

Thanks,

Peg & Cindy

Hi Peggy and Cindy,
I’m sorry the the delay in getting back to you, I’ve been busy of late. I discussed the banquet with the board at our last meeting and while they liked the home team pub last year, they requested if you could give us some quotes from other venues, like last year, and we could decide amongst those options. Let me know if you need anything from me. Thanks!
Paul

Hi,

We wanted to reach out to the Board regarding a potential OCC banquet in January 2027.

Our general impression is that people were pleased with the last banquet held at Home Team Pub in Liverpool. There may have been an issue that we can address - the noise caused by a door left open; other than that, we thought things went well.

As a reminder, for the last banquet, we approached Doubletree, Bella Domani, Dinosaur, and Craftsman House. Home Team turned out to be the most cost-effective.  If there are other options you would like us to pursue, let us know as soon as possible. Otherwise, we plan to move forward with Home Team Pub.

Thanks,
Cindy & Peg
