The race committee meeting tonight was lightly attended, but the conversation was very productive. The basic premise was determine if we can still do a race that is financially viable, which will attract participants and where we can get a reasonable amount of club support (i.e. volunteers). No doubt the numbers are sobering, however if we reduce all of our major expenses, then it looks like we can still hold a road race with a minimum of financial risk to the club.  If we register at least 125 participants, which wo ...Continue Reading

#1I know there was a meeting and you now I wasn’t there and I don’t know what was decided. #2 We had a race in 2017. So just to be clear, are we doing the race this year or scrapping it?  Personally, I agree with what people have said about the participation (by racers and volunteers) not justifying the expense.    Tom Fucillo   *From:* occ_race_comm@PROTECTED [mailto:occ_race_comm@PROTECTED] *Sent:* Monday, May 14, 2018 3:19 PM *To:* Thomas Fucillo *Subject:* Re: [occ_race_comm] Points to Ponder     It was a good run    Chuck D On May 14, 2018, at 11 ...Continue Reading

I think Dave's right.  The Blackfly challenge is a destination ride: start and finish at different spots, so the logistics can be tricky for many participants.  But last year they had a record year: 894 entrants, and this year they seem on par to beat that.  Weather does not seem to be a deciding factor either.People just love the dirt. Jeremy,The hill bender had 68 participants this year.  I talked to the race director a few months back (I forget his name), and he was thinking that this might be the last year for the event.  Even as a charity ride, they've been having trouble raising enough money to justify the cost.Todd Relyea On Monday, May 14, 2018, 11:44:39 AM EDT, Jeremy Clay BLE jeremy@PROTECTED [OCC_Race_Committee] <occ_race_comm@PROTECTED> wrote:   Does anyone know the numbers for the hill bender?  ...Continue Reading

Does anyone know the numbers for the hill bender?  How was it for a non-usac race?  Also, traditional racing is not very exciting for the individual anymore. Grand Fondos, gravel racing, and other open/nontraditional forms if racing are the current trend.  I know it's hard to think of this event changing, but maybe it's time. Something fresh?  Maybe a relay event?  Who knows?  Jeremy Sent via the BlackBerry Hub for Android *From:* occ_race_comm@PROTECTED*Sent:* May 14, 2018 11:1 ...Continue Reading
