Re: Points to Ponder

May 13th 2018 MDT

Many things to ponder:[*]As a multi-day event, Race Weekend (RW) is always hit with significantly higher costs per day than a single day event, primarily because of meals, lodging & overtime from the USACycling officials, [*]Three years ago, all of the race directors in NY were informed that we were out of compliance with the NYS DOT.  Speed events (races) require a permit, which in turn requires an expensive insurance policy and dramatically more law enforcement officers than we used to use (6 vs. 1).  Si ...Continue Reading

Just my 2 cents: if doing one day of racing in the future, it should be a road race so numbers support the financial outlay of the race. And if done with a hard hilltop finish, you could get away without hiring a timing company.  But... since the club is generally anti-racer and we don't do anything to support or recognize volunteers, it's probably not feasible to do, since the road race requires the most volunteers. BTW, I am no longer on the race committee, so whoever holds the keys to the email list can tak ...Continue Reading

Re: Points to Ponder

Hi Chuck, just to clarify, the BOD was not talking about pulling the plug this year, so that's why the race committee was not told about it.  It was just an informal discussion about next year and the future of the race.  The crit/TT-only race was just my idea based on the feedback I've heard about cost and volunteers.  I don't know the numbers of how many people participate in these races.  I'm ready to help out with the race this year and will try to get as many people on board as I can. &nbs ...Continue Reading

Colleen,I hold you in highest regard. You are the one person who gets things done and done right. The BoD volunteers and tries to do what is always best for the club. What I do not understand is if the BoD made a decision that effects a working committee, such as it is, then why weren’t we told. I have always said that our race was a we’ll kept secret but the BoD even kept it a secret that they were not interested in backing it. I understand why they said what they said and I actually agree. This is no longer a ful ...Continue Reading

Re: Points to Ponder

May 13th 2018 MDT

The OCC board discussed the race a couple meetings ago and the general consensus was with the race losing money, and club members showing very little interest in it (either racing or volunteering), it might be time to pull the plug on it.  Or if the time trial and crit are easy to run (and don't require as many volunteers or race officials), then maybe just do those two events on one day.  -Colleen On Sunday, May 13, 2018, 12:03:00 PM EDT, Chuck Dominick chuckdominick@PROTECTED [OCC_Race_Committee] &l ...Continue Reading

Points to Ponder

May 13th 2018 MDT

Last January I made a trip to the Marcellus Parks commission to inquire about reserving the park for our race. They informed me that we would be one of many that day but a pavilion would be available. The fee would be $120.So far we have not paid it. And tomorrow we lose the reservation unless we get it done.Question #1 ARE WE GOING TO PAY THE FEE?In my memo I also mentioned an opportunity to get some of the local businesses to maybe provide some sponsorship but at this late date that seems to be a useless quest.Questio ...Continue Reading

I will be gone that weekend. My attendance will not be necessary and I will forward to the committee today where my part is as of today. Weekends generally are hard for me, but Sunday night is particularly bad.  Friday/Saturday would depend a bit on time, too.  “Happy hour” at 4 or 5 pm on a Friday might work well.   The 20th I’ll be traveling for work.  Generally, the best is prior to OCC Board meetings, since usually I’ll be there already.  But we do need to get going on this, so shouldn’t wait until the next one.  On May 9, 2018, at 7:11 AM, Todd Relyea brewer13210@PROTECTED [OCC_Race_Committee] <occ_race_comm@PROTECTE ...Continue Reading

Next Syracuse Race Weekend Meeting

May 9th 2018 MDT

Hi all,Unfortunately I wasn't around last weekend to hold a race meeting (it turned out a lot of people were out of town as the OCC board meeting didn't have a quorum either). Let's schedule the next committee meeting for Sunday May 20th @ 6:00 pm at the SkyDesk (a week from this Sunday) to go over updates and plans.Note that we traditionally hold meetings on Sundays, but if there is a large preference for Friday or Saturday let me know. Todd Relyea ...Continue Reading

Re: 2018 race?

I have missed a few meetings. But I’m here! Anything I can do to help with this? I still remember to make sure there is a cable for the sound system! > On May 8, 2018, at 7:14 AM, Chuck Dominick chuckdominick@PROTECTED [OCC_Race_Committee] wrote: > > > > What is happening with the race?
