Hi Everyone,
Well, only one week until we launch the Slow ‘n Easy West rides on April 26th at the Reed Webster Park in Camillus. The weatherman is predicting a cloudy day and a high of around 50. Not too
bad to start the season. We have definitely had worse starts…believe me!
For those of you who have ridden with us in prior years, everything remains the same. For those who plan to join us for the first time, we welcome you and remind you of the rules for the ride. You are definitely required to have a bicycling helmet to ride on this ride. No excuses! Helmets are reasonably priced and within everyone’s reach. They need to conform to DOT specs. You can find them at your local bike shop as well as some of the big box stores in the area. Think of your head as an egg…remember what happens if you drop an egg on the pavement. Your head will react the same way without a helmet.
Also make sure your bike is roadworthy for the ride. If it has been in your garage or basement all winter, it will most likely need to have the tire pressure checked and raised to the level suggested on the tire…tires will lose air when they sit around. Make sure the chain and wheels turn freely and if you have gears, they should operate freely. If you don’t think you can handle this work, take the bike to your favorite bike shop and get it tuned up and ready for the road. They are busy right now so don’t wait until next Monday to bring it in. You don’t want it breaking down on your first time out…nor do I.
Not a member? If you were a 2015 member, your membership expired at the end of December. Get yourself re-registered for 2016 either on line or by bringing a completed registration form with your money to the ride. On-line is by far the fastest way. For folks who have not been a member previously, please come out and join us for the ride to see if you enjoy the group and then follow-up by joining on-line or in hard copy at the next ride. Our insurance for riders is very strict on allowing non-members to ride only once as a “guest”…after that you need to be a member.
We plan to have multiple ride leaders and rides of different skill levels available. From real easy to more difficult. You can chose the one that fits you.
