[occ2] 7/5/16 SnE West ride

hi Everyone,

Last evening was a great night for a ride.  I thought our turnout was a little light compared to our normal numbers.  We had 37 members show up and no guests.  These 37 members rode a combined distance of 615 miles.

Tom Hotaling’s group rode option 3 although Tom had an unexpected flat about 3 miles into the loop and had to leave to get the flat replaced.  The positive side was that since he has been publishing the routes on the web site, everyone had route maps and made it through the course without him being there.  Mike Lyon had a good sized group that rode a 23 mile loop at an intermediate speed.

Mark Perrin was away on vacation and Dean Connery took over the ride leader duties as well as the bike repair work.  Dean and Al Storings led the beginner group all highway ride on a 10 mile jaunt while I had a few folks who chose to ride the 10 mile canal route.

Everyone had fun and other than Tom, there were no other flats or mechanicals.  Lee made cookies and Mike brought the frozen fruit drink bars to cool everyone off.  For those who thought it might be too warm to ride, the breeze while moving made it very comfortable…and we can’t do this in January!

We need to enjoy the summer while we have it.  don’t let the temperature scare you away…especially for an evening ride…it usually cools down.

Todd Relyea is still seeking volunteers to man positions during the Race Weekend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  See his request below:

This year, the OCC Syracuse Race Weekend is being held on July 8th, 9th and 10th, consisting of a Friday Hill Climb, Saturday Time Trial, Saturday Criterium and Sunday Road Race.

If you've attended to an OCC ride within the last two weeks, then you've likely already heard my appeal for volunteers for Race Weekend.  It's now crunch time, and we're still looking for road marshals, pace car drivers and wheel car drivers, especially for the road race in Tully on Sunday.

As always, we have racers coming in from all over the US and Canada, and the success of race weekend hinges on the club members who come out and volunteer their time to make this a great event.

Note that there are NO scheduled OCC rides this weekend, so why not volunteer and get the best seat in the house for a great bike race.

FAQ:

·        Does someone need to be an OCC member to volunteer?  NO...anyone can volunteer for the event,

·        Do I have to have any previous experience?  NO...all of the duties are relatively simple,

·        I only have a few free hours this weekend, can you still use me?  ABSOLUTELY, there is no big time commitments.

As an extra incentive this year, all volunteers, regardless of which day you're volunteering for, are invited to join us for dinner after the Hill Climb on Friday July 8th at Beak & Skiff in LaFayette

To make things simple, this year we're using BikeReg to organize volunteers, we're we've listed all of the open positions we need help with.  Just follow the link and select the event and job from the list.

If you want to volunteer but have no idea what anything on BikeReg means, just contact me at the number/e-mail below.

Thanks!
