Hi Everyone,

S + L logo.jpg

OCC’s next Slow ‘n Easy West ride is scheduled for Tuesday, August 30,2016 and leaves from the west end parking lot of Reed Webster Park in Camillus, located on Warners Rd (Rt 173), promptly at 6:00 PM.  It’s the end of August as well as NYS Fair week…some  roads that connect to the Fair may be congested. The days are getting shorter now so we will be decreasing the distance on some of the rides to compensate for this.

The forecast for Tuesday is “…nice with plenty of sunshine”;  temperatures will climb to 82.  Looks like another nice one. Dress accordingly and bring ample water to stay hydrated.

As I mentioned in last week’s email, we are running out of SnE cycling season all too quickly.  If you want to give the ride a try, now is the time while we still have nice weather and the days aren’t too short.  Come on out Tuesday and ride with us.

The  OCC Slow ‘n Easy West rides provide a fun cycling experience for anyone who wants to get into cycling. The ride(s) offers a variety of route/ride options that have various skill and ability levels allowing us to better match rider experience levels so that there is something for everyone.  Most folks find that once they have done a number of “slow ‘n easy” rides, they are looking at something a little longer and more challenging.  That’s why we offer at least four levels of rides…to give you a place to grow your skills.  All of our rides are “no drop” rides so you won’t get left behind.  Why not give it a try?

This ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport. (Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership from 2015…you are not a member and must sign in as a guest.)  Guests are encouraged to join us on a ride and see if they like what we offer.  If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities during the year.  Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season.  Membership applications are available at rides or on line.

All riders are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides.  If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store.  No helmet…no ride...no exceptions…and our insurance requires it.  Riding without a helmet can be very dangerous.

Tom Hotaling has advised me that this week is the last Tuesday of the month so it will be hill night.  Tom plans to do the hilly Opt. #1 route.  Look it up on the website and print yourself a copy or load it into you electronic device for the ride.  Plan for a challenging fun ride.

So, join us this Tuesday evening for the next S’nE West ride.

Where:  Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (parking lot on west end between the tennis courts and pavilion)

Bring:     Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride; with the warmer weather, you’ll want to stay hydrated

Dress:    Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this

Mike and I will be there to answer your questions and lead the rides along with our other volunteer ride leaders.  As usual, we’ll have treats for after the ride.  If you enjoy baking, you are always welcome to bring post ride snacks to share…and showcase your skills.  Stick around after the ride and we’ll be happy to listen to your comments as well as answer any questions you may have.

See you all Tuesday evening.  If you have any questions come early and we’ll will be happy to answer them.

Ciao,

Tony

PS:  If you are thinking of getting a new bike this summer, check out your local bike shops.  Many are offering end of season discounts on 2016 models at this time…there are some great buys out there.  If you do buy a new bike and are not a member of the club, you’ll also be entitled to a free 2017 membership so that you can join in the fun immediately.
