CNY Regional Recreation and Heritage Plan - Mapping

Public Meeting January 31, 2017 (6:00 - 7:30 PM)

CNY Regional Planning and Development Board, 126 North Salina Street, Syracuse, NY

(use entrance from parking lot behind building)

The CNY Regional Planning and Development Board, in partnership with Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, and Oswego County Planning offices, is developing a new Regional Recreation and Heritage Plan intended to support improved local quality of life throughout Central New York and to revive regional economic growth by guiding future improvements to the connectivity of existing outdoor recreation and heritage resources. An inventory of resources (bike routes, scenic routes and areas, public boating and swimming access, museums, historic sites, and adaptive reuse opportunities, working landscapes, festivals and events, natural areas, outdoor recreation and hiking areas) has contributed to mapping of proposed bicycle touring corridors intended to link nodes of natural areas, waterfronts, and heritage resources.

The regional plan will provide a framework for five Central New York Counties and individual municipalities to move forward with local planning and implementation efforts for related community and economic development activities. At this meeting, mapping completed for the new plan will be available for public review.

The Central New York Regional Planning & Development Board (CNY RPDB) is providing community outreach coordination, planning, writing, and mapping assistance working closely with five CNY Counties in this regional planning effort. Community input is essential to the success of this planning. A public agency, the CNY RPDB was established in 1966 by Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties and provides a comprehensive range of services associated with the growth and development of communities in Central New York with a focus on the following program areas: Energy Management, Community Development & Comprehensive Planning, Economic Development, Environmental Management, Information and Research Services, Intergovernmental Coordination, and Transportation Planning. Thanks to the above listed organizations for their offer to host these community meetings.

The document is being prepared for the NYS Department of State with funds provided under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund through the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (EPF LWRP). The opinions, results, findings and/or interpretations of data contained herein are the responsibility of the CNY Regional Planning and Development Board and do not necessarily represent the opinions, interpretations or policy of the State.
