I am recruiting crew members for my team’s entry in the Race Across America (RAAM) -- an intense cross-country 7 day cycling time trial It’s grueling but people who have crewed for other RAAM teams led by our crew chief Dave Eldridge, the most winning Crew Chief in RAAM’s history, report it as a lifetime experience they wouldn’t want to have missed Here’s a link to the RAAM site: https://www raceacrossamerica org/

Would you be willing to circulate to folks you think might be interested? If you already know you are game – please contact Crew Chief Dave Eldridge 1953dave@gmail com or 205-276-9060 – or keep reading below if you are on the fence

We are a 4-women 60+ team (2016 age group champions in 4 disciplines - Road, Mountain, Tri and Uphill)

Our RAAM goals are to:

Establish the first 4-Woman 60+ Team Record It’s never been done!
>> Beat the 50-59 record of traveling at an average speed of 19 22 mph (6 days, 11 hours and 34 minutes) Show America what 60-year old women can do on their bikes Raise funds for a cause meaningful to us (to be named in collaboration with our sponsor)

You don’t have to be a cyclist to be a crew member We’re looking for people who want to be part of an exhilarating but demanding adventure and have: A service minded personality, get along well with others in stressful situations and work well as a member of a team; A sense of humor; A will to succeed; An excellent driving record; No significant dietary or sleep needs

Here’s what past crew members have said about their experience:

“You never sleep the first night, your adrenaline is maxed out and you're feeding off everyone else's positive energy You're seeing parts of the country that you've never seen before, eating PB&J and pounding Coca Cola just for the caffeine… Heat, rain, high and low altitude, sunrises and sets, MILES OF CORN…You hardly sleep the last shift before the finish, you've come so far and you need to see the completion, it's over, mission accomplished, where is the nearest steak dinner, beer, and bed? The celebration is well deserved and you and your team have shared experiences of a lifetime Occasionally, you'll start talking about RAAM to a former teammate and even though at times you were at your most vulnerable and exhausted, you both agree that you'd both do it again, in a heartbeat ” - Phillip Bellini

“Being a crew member on a RAAM team is unlike any other experience you will ever have The experience is exhausting, frustrating, exciting, challenging, boring but rewarding, and often during the race several of those emotions are vying for the top spot in your mind Being a crew member on a RAAM team pushes you in ways you never thought possible, and teaches you how to overcome challenges However, the best part is the friendships and memories you create during this race will stick with you your entire life It is unlike any other experience you will ever have ” - Nate Keck

If you think you may be interested in being part of the crew, keep in mind that RAAM requires a committed team effort!! It is not a bike ride, it is a bike race! It is not for the feint of heart With that being said, the rewards will be enormous You’ll be part of an extremely committed and driven team (racers and crew members alike) that is working to break down barriers and inspire people of any age to pursue their passions

The race starts in Oceanside, California and ends in Annapolis, Maryland You’ll fly to San Diego and travel home from Baltimore Dates are: Wednesday, June 14 to Sunday, June 25 The position is voluntary with all expenses associated with the race covered for ten days This includes flights and lodging as well as a daily stipend for food

The RAAM 2017 attachment is a sobering summary of how this thing flows

Interested in joining us? Contact our Crew Chief, Dave Eldridge, directly: 1953dave@gmail com or 205-276-9060
