Women's Weekend MTB skills rides
Join us on monthly women's only group rides this Spring and Summer! These three hour events will start with bike checks and some basic skills then we'll hit the trails for 5-7 miles of riding with some skills practice along the way. Hammond Hill State Forest is in Dryden, NY. Here the trails are a bit wider and smoother, making them fairly beginner friendly. Shindagin Hollow State Forest in Brooktondale is the premier (and oh-so-fun!) trail system in our area, and provides opportunity to work on navigating more small obstacles in the trail, experience flowy berms, and play on some built trail features. RSVP by the Thursday prior to the event.
We recommend a well-tuned mountain bike with at least a front suspension fork (that moves!). Basic hardtail mountain bikes are available for a $20 rental fee through Cornell Outdoor Education. Please indicate when you RSVP if you would like us to bring one to the event for you. Helmets are required to join the ride. Wear comfortable, athletic clothes and shoes, and bring water and a snack.
Women's series leaders:
Christy Peterson teaches mountain biking at Cornell Outdoor Education and is our resident gear-head and bike maintenance whiz.
Amy Brown coaches skiing her "off" season and is our go-to gal for mastering the grin inducing joy of descending through berms and tight turns with ease.
Anna Cook loves herself a good technical climb, and wants everyone to discover the power of momentum plus a wheel lift.
Jess Confer attended two Liv Cycling All-ride events last year and wants everyone be able to pop a wheelie and keep their bums to the berm!
LiLynn Graves, Pam Guelnder, Eva Stillwell, Noelle Warwick, and Rena Scroggins are other awesome ladies of Cycle-CNY who will be helping out along the way as well.
