Hi Everyone,
The next Slow ‘n Easy West ride scheduled for Tuesday June 13th departs from the west end parking lot of Reed Webster Park in Camillus, located on Warners Rd (Rt 173), promptly at 6:00 PM. Please arrive early so that you can sign in and be ready to leave on time.
The forecast for Tuesday calls for “…sunshine mixing with clouds and humid; a thunderstorm around in the afternoon”, a day with temperatures in the low 80s…from the sounds of the forecast, the afternoon T-storm could be spotty. I am hoping it will be a nice night to ride. At least, it is warming upJ.
If you are reading these emails you must have an interest in cycling since this only goes out to the club list serve and a separate SnEW mailing list? With that interest, why not do the real thing and come out to check the ride instead of reading about it? Why not this Tuesday night? I think the weather will work out for us…you just need to get the bike out of the garage or basement, get it ready and then motivate yourself to come out to Reed Webster Park around 5:30 PM. I would enjoy seeing you at the ride. If you have not ridden in a long time and are not sure if you can do a ride, plan on coming out to ride on the canal loop (with me) which is about half canal path and half highway. It’s easy riding and we stop frequently to regroup. The highway portion has nice wide shoulders. We travel at a very easy pace and I have had 80 year olds who have done it with no problems what so ever. It’s only around 10 miles long. So, just do it…come on out and surprise yourself with what you can do.
The OCC Slow ‘n Easy (East or West) rides give people who have not ridden since their childhood days the means to revisit the sport in a safe, non-intimidating manner and with people who are always willing to help in sharing the fun. If you are a rider and have a friend who has talked about the days when they rode their bikes, why not forward this email to them and encourage them to come for the ride and then join them yourself at the ride this Tuesday (or Thursday)? They’ll find a great group of people with similar interests and goals to ride with and a variety of ride levels that will fit their skills and ability. We welcome new or returning riders and look forward to their questions and interest in getting into the sport.
This ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport. (Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership from 2016…you are not a member and must sign in as a guest.) Guests are encouraged to join us on a ride and see if they like what we offer. If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities during the year. Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season. Membership applications are available at rides or on line at https://onondagacyclingclub.org/product-category/membership/. It is easy to become a member.
All riders are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides. I don’t remember these when I was a kid…but I am glad we have them now. If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store. No helmet…no ride...no exceptions…our insurance requires it. Riding without a helmet can be very dangerous.
Tom Hotaling is planning to do Option #1, with 785’ of elevation change and 23 miles distance. This is for Tom’s “special” group of riders who want to be challenged. Like I have said before…we have something for everyone.
So, join us this Tuesday evening for the next S’nE West ride.
