Expanding a bit on Gus's comment regarding volunteers for Race Weekend, first I'd give a big thank-you to everyone who has already signed-up to volunteer! Race Weekend doesn't happen without the support of the OCC membership.
That being said, we're still very much in need of road marshals and pace/wheel car drivers, especially for the road race on Sunday. We also need road marshals for the criterium this Saturday at the State Fair grounds and for the time trial Saturday morning in LaFayette.
I'd also like to take a moment to explain why the OCC runs so many events such as Race Weekend throughout the year. We of course love all things cycling, and besides our weekly rides, we run events such as Race Weekend, the Fall Century, Cyclocross Weekend and the 70.3 warm-up ride. The Onondaga Cycling Club is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, meaning that we exist to serve a public good. The most basic way we do that is by making fairly sizable donations to local charities that the board of directors has deemed to be worthy organizations. This includes both sports/cycling related organizations and general charities. Over the last 12 months this has included organizations such as the CNY Food Bank, the Rescue Mission, CNY Land Trust (Great Bear Recreation Area),Team Red, White and Blue, and many others. In the past we were also very consistent supporters of BIKE Syracuse.
Membership dues covers our basic operating expenses such as the cost of insurance, but the proceeds from the races and events allow us to fulfill our larger mission as an organization that has a positive impact on the local community.
So help us support our larger mission by volunteering for Race Weekend. You can follow the direct link to BikeReg,or contact me directly.
Thanks!
35 Members and 1 guest rode a total of 1,308 hot and muggy miles. The weather made the generally rolling ride seem a bit hillier than the rating led this ride leader to expect. It was a beautiful ride with only As being awarded (n=6). There were no incidents reported. Special thanks to Doug Bray for adjusting the map for the new start point. On another note, seeing that nobody signed up on the Race Weekend volunteer sheet that Todd put out, I can only assume people hurried home and signed up using the link on the Club website. You did, right? Gus Sent from the almighty iPad
