Hi - I don't recall hearing about this app through the club, so I thought I would bring it to your attention.
The 529 Garage app lets you store photos and info for your bikes that can then be used to alert other users and the police to be on the lookout when one is stolen. Currently, there are no nodes of users in New York State, but your participation could build it here. And, obviously, if you travel where there are a lot of users, your chances of finding your bike increase.
The service is free, but they also offer ID registration stickers to put on your bike as a warning that people will be watching out for it. Those cost $10 for 1 bike or $25 for 4 bikes, available here:
A good number of clubs, universities, bike shops, and a number of police departments (mostly in western Canada) are participants in this project.
Our club could participate as well, and help spread the service in this area.
