Come out June 7-9, 2019 for the 39th rendition of the Great Finger Lakes Bicycle Tour and join about 200 like-minded cyclists in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Southern Tier Bicycle Club. The event will be held at the Hidden Valley Group Camp of Watkins Glen State Park in the heart of the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York.
The cost is only $92 and covers camping for 2 nights, maps, sag services and 4 catered meals. There are acres of well-maintained lawns for tent or trailer camping. Cabin beds are available as a $10 option and there are nearby motels. The dining hall comfortably seats everyone for meals, entertainment, and socializing. We will have some entertaining speakers, some music, and some great bonfires.
We will have rides Friday afternoon, Saturday, and Sunday. The Saturday rides will range from about 20 miles to a little over 100 miles and will offer challenges for every level of rider. Regina, our route guru and map maker, has designed some great new routes on some very quiet and scenic roads that run mostly West of Seneca Lake. The routes will showcase the beauty of the Finger Lakes and the peaceful roads of the Amish country. We will have ride facilitators for most of the rides and the shorter Saturday rides will be run much like our “Wheels to Meals” group rides with a ride leader and a “no one left behind” policy.
The full details of the event and registration are on www.greatfingerlakesbiketour.com and registration is now open. You can register on-line using PayPal. A PayPal account is not required, you can use a credit card or you can download and print a mail in form.
This event is a great way to introduce yourself or your friends and family to the pleasures of a group cycling event. Many of the attendees use this event as a reunion site to meet up with old friends that have moved away and all of us look forward to seeing friends made in the previous years. The campground is about 90 minutes from Binghamton, about 1 ¾ hrs from Syracuse, 2 ½ hrs from Buffalo, and 4 hrs from either NYC or Toronto.
