Hi Everyone
Welcome to the 2019 season of the Slow ‘n Easy West rides on Tuesday April 23rd. This will begin the 11th year of this ride. If you have not tried it yet, don’t you think you have waited long enough? The ride leaves from Reed Webster Park, located on Warners Rd (Rt 173), in Camillus every Tuesday during the season at 6:00 PM sharp. We hope you will join us.
The Accu-weather forecast for the ride is calling for: “Times of clouds and sun, a shower or heavy thunderstorm late in the afternoon” with the predicted high of 74 degrees. I guess this is Syracuse.
While our name may give people the impression that everyone is riding at a slow pace, the ride has evolved into a ride for all levels of cyclists from beginner to experienced. The OCC Slow ‘n Easy West rides provide a fun cycling experience for anyone who wants to get into cycling. The ride(s) offers a variety of route/ride options that have different skill and ability levels allowing us to better match rider ability levels so that there is something for everyone. Many folks find that once they have done a number of “slow ‘n easy” rides, they are looking at something a little longer and somewhat faster. That’s why we offer at least four levels of rides…to give you a place to grow your skills. Our rides are “no drop” rides for the most part so you won’t get left behind. The only ride that is not, is the ride that we call the “challenge” ride. There are maps for these more challenging rides on the club web site. Tom Hotaling who leads the “challenge” ride says that we will start the season with ride #1 and work are way up. Check our website for this map. Mike Lyon assures me that the other routes for the easy rides can also be found there.
So, what is your excuse for not coming out??? Check out your bike to make sure it is road ready and come out Tuesday evening to ride with the group. You will have fun and meet some great people. Even if you are not a member, come out and ride as our guest to check it out. Guests get a free “guest” ride once (our insurance controls this) to see if they like the ride. If you like it, join up and ride the many other rides we offer. There is a ride of one type or other every day of the week during the season. (some clubs offer only one ride each week…and some clubs do the same ride each week…not OCC!)
Here are the details for Tuesday’s ride:
Where: Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (parking lot on west end near tennis courts)
When: Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp; sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM
Bring: Your bike (make sure it is road worthy and safe to ride; check tire pressures), a DOT approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride. Remember, helmets are not optional! Be sure to bring extra water.
Dress: Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this.
Let’s have a big turnout for the first ride of this season…
Mike and Tony
