Hi Everyone,
What’s in a name? While our name may give people the impression that everyone is riding at a slow pace, the ride has evolved into a ride for all levels of cyclists…from beginner to experienced. The OCC Slow ‘n Easy West rides provide a fun cycling experience for anyone who wants to get into cycling. The ride(s) offers a variety of route/ride options that have varied skill and ability levels allowing us to better match rider experience levels so that there is something for everyone. Most folks find they are looking for something a little longer and somewhat faster once they have done a few slow ‘n easy rides. That’s why we offer at least three or four levels of rides…to give you a place to grow your skills. Why not give it a try? What we think makes this a great ride is the diversity we offer for riding skills. Aside from the basic canal loop (real easy), we also offer a 10 mile slow highway route (easy), an intermediate highway route of 18-20 miles (more challenging and somewhat faster) and a challenging faster and hillier route for all those who want to go home tired (it will be a workout). Four different rides to pick from. From beginner to very experienced, we have you all covered. Be sure to come out. Other than the “challenge” ride, all of the other rides are “no-drop” rides…you won’t be left stranded by yourself. Since this is the last Tuesday of the month, Tom Hotaling, who leads our highest ability challenge rides tells me that he will be using hillier option #1 ;22 miles. On the last Tuesday of the month he does a hillier challenge route J. So, all those of you who want to ride with Tom, you can look over the route and print out a route map for your own use from the club website. This ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport. (Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership from 2018…you are not a member and must sign in as a guest.) Guests are encouraged to join us on a ride and see if they like what we offer. If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities during the year. Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season. Membership applications are available at rides or on line. Remember, there are still a lot of OCC rides before the season closes…and hopefully we’ll have a nice mild and DRY fall. All riders are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides. If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store. No helmet…no ride...no exceptions…and our insurance requires it. So, join us this Tuesday evening for the next S’nE West ride. Where: Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (parking lot on west end near tennis courts) When: Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp; sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM Bring: Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride; with the warmer weather, you’ll want to stay hydrated Dress: Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this Mike Lyon will be there to answer your questions.
