Subject: [FLCC] Used bikes

We are getting toward the end of the popular cycling season, as the days get shorter and the likelihood of inclement weather increases.  (there is no such thing as bad weather for cycling - only bad choices of clothing...)

I posted earlier in the summer that the bike industry had a real shortage of inventory in "basic" bikes.  This is still the case.  Although factories have been producing bikes at full capacity, the demand (worldwide) has exceeded production.  I read in an industry publication recently that the bike companies don't expect to have "on demand" inventory in warehouses until late spring/early summer 2021.

When I posted early on that this is a good time to sell used bikes, I received a significant number of offerings of used bikes for sale on consignment, many of which have gone on to new homes. I still have some of these used bikes left, (including some nice kid-sized bikes) and I am working with a few people to settle estates of former bikers who have died and left behind their stables of bikes for their spouses to deal with. This means that I have an influx of more used bikes ranging from some commuter types to some pretty impressive high end machines, that I am trying to sell for them.  For better or worse, many of the nicer bikes are pretty large (~58cm or so)

I am hoping to be able to get a fair price for these bikes that are on consignment, so the sellers will be satisfied, while offering super value to anyone who purchases them.   I take no "cut" on sale of a bike that is on consignment so there is a good range of price where both buyer and seller can feel good about a transaction.  (I get two happy future customers.)  In addition to these consignment bikes, there are a handful of used bikes that I have purchased outright as trade-ins.  Finally, my inventory of new bikes includes some odds and ends that have been hanging around (literally) for a number of years. As winter looms on the horizon and I need to make space for my firewood and as I simply want to streamline my overall inventory, many of these older inventory bikes will be sold at or below what I paid for them in the first place.

I do not have a complete list of all of these bikes, and life is too busy to try to compile a complete listing with sizes, details and prices.  If you are in the market for adding another bike to your stable and you want to know if I have anything like what you are looking for, you can send me an email  (swancycles@PROTECTED) with what sort of bike and what size range you are looking for and I can respond to you, or you can come to the bike shop (we are open M-Th 6-8PM) and peruse the array of bikes.

A short list of used bikes :    Fuji Transonic SL, Fuji Gran Fondo Classico, Fuji Cross 1.1, Specialized Transition Tri-bike, Garneau TT bike, Trek OCLV, Gary Fisher Paragon MTB, Ridley Crossbow, Cannondale CAAD2, Giant Defy, Bianchi Volpe, Bob Jackson, Trek MTB, Fuji Roubaix, Terry Gambit, Fuji Absolute 24 (awesome kid-bike), a Specialized 20" wheel MTB, a couple of Hybrid bikes, and handful of 20" wheel coaster brake kid bikes.

This time of year is my favorite for riding.  Shorts and long sleeves. Fall foliage. Exploring dirt roads or all of those side roads that you passed on long summer rides where you thought to yourself, "that looks interesting...I wonder where that road ends up?"

Here's another thought....We may have canceled the Swandrome Cyclocross event as the official season has been wiped off the calendar by COVID, but if there are riders who would like to practice and even compete, the 'cross trails at the Swandrome have been maintained all year and it would be easy to have practices or a one-day event such as a "Timed Hot Laps"  event that could allow us to maintain social distance and still get some intense and fun competitive riding in.  Can you complete a full lap of the Swandrome course in under 10 minutes ? Are you at least faster than your best friend ?  And would your kids like to ride the trails (including the new pump track) at the Swandrome ?  I welcome people to enjoy the trails on bikes, skis, (not very popular at this time of year) or walking, alone or with dogs. (off-leash is welcomed for happy dogs as long as they don't harass the chickens)

Happy Fall !
