The roads dried out completely and the breeze was from the East as predicted.  It isn't often that we get a due East breeze.  Everyone experienced a nice tailwind for the first three miles - most likely some PRs were set on Chestnut Ridge.

Three TTers showed up to squeeze in another hard effort before the TT season winds down.  Ken Toscano took the FMT with a blistering time of 26:33 (22.60mph).  Our chopper over the course had him almost averaging 25mph for the first 3 miles.  Unfortunately, the headwind on Moore and Smith Ridge tooketh what Chestnut Ridge giveth.   Dick Rybinski had his best time of 2022 which is only 14 seconds slower than his 2021 best time set last October.  I guess he peaks in the Fall.    Ironman Rich O'Neil is so lean that he went back to his car before the start to put on a floppy long sleeve shirt in order to stay warm in the 68 degree temps.  Needless to say, that didn't help his aerodynamics.   Next week I'll give him some hand warmers so he can strip down.

My plan is to continue the TTs as long as there is interest and the weather remains warm.  We'll probably start at 5:45pm next week.

Vuelta a Espana:
Awwww.  dang it!  Yesterday -  Primoz Roglic tried to make the race even more interesting by pulling a group of 5 for about 3 minutes to create a gap with the leader Evenepoel.  At the same time Evenepoel flatted and needed to change bikes.   So, there was a gap of at least 10 seconds created until .......   Roglic touched handlebars or wheels with a sprinter and went down... And hard.  100 yards from the finish.  Now he's out.    Barring a crash by Evenepoel,  he is going to win the Vuelta.

Btw,   A 19 year old is vying for the podium.  Juan Ayuso,  another super "youngster" .

Alejandro Valverde is retiring from bike racing after the Vuelta.  Racing for Movistar  his whole career I believe.  He raced for 21 years!   Retiring at the age of 42.  INCREDIBLE career!

Til next week,
Brian
