Thank you to all who offered advice – it was most appreciated – I ended up riding a couple of different road bikes – the CAAD8, Allez and the Diverge and I ended up settling on the Specialized Diverge A1 – I liked the way it felt and didn’t mind the 30mm tires – I did ride the Erie Canal trail this evening in Dewitt and once I left the paved area into the crushed gravel I could see the Diverge being a little easier to ride on that surface…
The decision was made a little easier because I do also have an older Cannondale 3.1 aluminum road bike that I took in for a tune up and new tires – so now I will have a road bike that handles the gravel better and a true road bike – best of both worlds…
I must also say I was very impressed with both shops – the Bike Loft on South Bay Road and the Bikery in Baldwinsville – both very friendly and easy to deal with…
I expect on the 14th to bring out the Diverge and try to keep up with you all J

Hey all,
I registered for the club this week as I just started riding a few weeks ago (as a cross training option for running – and I found I like riding better J ). I am shopping for a road bike now – I really liked the Specialized Diverge I rode yesterday (not a true road bike but close) and will go out to B’ville today to ride a Cannondale (CAAD8 or Syanpse). I also plan to ride the Specialized Allez as well…
When I started running, I signed up for a couple of 5K races and started training for them. It was easy to find 5K races to run in this area. Are their races in this area for riders? Where would I look for them? I’m not looking at being competitive any time soon, but for me, it works to set a goal to run a race, plop down the entry fee and then train towards the race.
I look forward to meeting many of you in a couple of weeks at the June 14th slow and easy ride (first Tuesday I am available)..
Matt
