Good morning everyone,
It was another great evening of riding at the SnE West ride last night. There were 52 members and 1 guest for a total of 53 riders. The group pedaled a total of 858 miles on four different routes.
Tom Hotaling led a large group on his hilly route covering 22 miles while Mike Lyon commanded an equally large group on a less intimidating route of 21 miles. Mark Perrin of the Bikery with co-ride leaders Dean Connery, Roland Pearson and Al Storrings lead their group of slower and easier riders on an all highway route that covered 10 or 13 miles depending on rider choice. I lead a small group on riders who followed the canal path and highway for a total of 10 miles.
There were no flats or mechanical problems that I was made aware of…good night! We topped off the evening with cold watermelon upon everyone’s return. It sure tasted good.
If you did not notice this in today’s Herald Journal:
“Upstate Medical University will give away free bike helmets to adults and children at the New York State Fair beginning at 10 a.m. today in front of the Science and Industry Building, located right inside the fair's main entrance. The giveaway will continue until supplies run out.
Medical research shows that helmets can prevent 85 percent of cyclists' head injuries.
Members of Upstate's trauma service will be available to ensure proper fit of the helmet and to answer questions.
Upstate expects to give away more than 800 helmets.
Free bike helmets also will be available to individuals participating in the Ride for $5 Day, a group bike ride beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the Salt Museum at Onondaga Lake Park to the New York State Fair. Bike riders will be given $5 admission to the fair.”
Two good deals if you are interested.
See you all next Tuesday for the last SnE West ride of the season. The club will continue to host all the other rides on the ride schedule.
Ciao,
Tony
