The Transportation Planner will be responsible for the City’s transportation planning and performs a wide range of work duties, including, but not limited to, planning research, composing plans and documents, and developing and implementing
public participation initiatives for programs.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
- Prepares, implements, and revises the City’s long-range transportation plans, including but not limited to, the City adopted Bicycle Master Plan;
- Actively participates and develops programs and projects for the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council (SMTC), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), including updates to the Transportation
Improvement Program (TIP), the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP), and the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP);
- Collects and analyzes data from a variety of sources; and engages in planning at multiple scales, including but not limited to, the site, corridor, neighborhood, and city-wide scales, over a range of timeframes
including short, medium and long range plans and/or recommendations;
- Designs and performs studies involving data collection and design and/or participates in studies involving analysis of physical, economic, environmental, fiscal and demographic factors relating to transportation
planning;
- Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, Transportation and Transit Planning and Analysis, or Urban Planning or a field closely related
to Urban Planning; and
- Minimum three years (five years preferred) of relevant professional level work experience, or its part-time equivalent in planning, development, or redevelopment in a public sector agency or its equivalent
in the private sector.
