Hi Everyone,

I hope all our mothers and grandmothers had a wonderful Mother’s Day with their families…even the weather was a lot better than predicted.

S + L logo.jpgThe next Slow ‘n Easy West ride is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16, 2017.  The rides will leave from the west end parking lot of Reed Webster Park in Camillus located on Warners Rd (Rt 173).  Our rides start promptly at 6:00 PM.  Please arrive early so that you can sign in and the rides can depart on time to take advantage of the available daylight.

The forecast for the weather is “Mostly sunny and warmer “ on Tuesday.  Here we are in our 4th week of riding and it is the first time I have seen an optimistic forecast.  They are projecting a high of 69oNow this is my kind of weather J. Hopefully the forecast is accurate.

If you bought a new bike this season to get into riding, this is not only the night, but this is the ride for you.  This ride has a mix of routes that fit a wide range of skill levels and abilities.  If you want to enjoy the camaraderie and social aspects of riding, this is also a perfect ride for you.  Don’t wait for the season to pass you by… get off the couch and come out Tuesday evening and give it a try.  We will have our usual choice of 4 different rides of varying skill and ability levels. So, we should have a ride that anyone…novice or experienced can do.  Tom H will be doing Option #4 for his “special” group this week. (22 miles with 1160’ of elevation).

You are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides (as well as any other OCC ride).  If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store.  Even the least expensive ones meet the standards.  No helmet…no ride...no exceptions.  Riding without a helmet is very dangerous…and our insurance requires you to wear one.

The ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport.  Guests are encouraged to join with us on a ride and see if they like what we offer.  If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to join the club and become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities for the year.  Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season.  2016 members who have not renewed their membership as of yet are considered “guests”.  So, get signed up!  Membership applications are available at rides or on line.  Here is the web link: https://onondagacyclingclub.org/product-category/membership/.

So, join us Tuesday evening May 16th  for the 4th  S’nE West ride.

Where:  Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (parking lot on west end near tennis courts)

When:    Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp;  sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM

Bring:     Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride; with the warmer weather, you’ll want to stay hydrated

Dress:    Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this

All of our regular ride leaders will be there to help you out.  Treats are always welcome for post ride snacks to share.  Feel free to bring some to share.

See you all Tuesday.  If you have any questions come early and I will be happy to answer them.

Ciao,

Tony

PS:  The OCC is once again supporting its “buy a bike…get a 2017 membership” promotion with all local bike shops.  If you buy a new bike be sure to ask the shop.  This offer only applies to bikes sold through recognized local bike shops…not big box stores.  Also, the offer is only for people who have not been a member of the club previously…not good for renewals.  The season is just starting and the good weather is finally here.  Get a bike and get riding!
