S + L logo.jpgHi Everyone,

OCC’s next Slow ‘n Easy West ride is scheduled for Tuesday August 1, 2017 and leaves from the west end parking lot of Reed Webster Park in Camillus, located on Warners Rd (Rt 173), promptly at 6:00 PM.  Please arrive early so that you can sign in and be ready to depart on time.  Wow! August already?

The forecast for Tuesday is “…Variable clouds with a shower”;  temperatures will have a high of 69.  It’s going to be somewhat cooler. Dress accordingly and as usual bring ample water to stay hydrated.  Can’t say what the rain will do or when.  Hopefully it will come early enough to not be  problem.

We are now into the month of August…don’t know where July wentL. We are quickly running out of season.  Don’t skip too many more of these Tuesdays or you’ll have to wait until next year.  With all the bad weather we have had, the season seems to be passing us by very quickly. If you have wanted to come out and try this ride, now is a good time…there is still time left.

While our name may give riders the impression that everyone is riding at a slow pace, the ride is for all levels of cyclists…from beginner (slow) to experienced (faster).  The  OCC Slow ‘n Easy West rides provide a fun cycling experience for anyone who wants to get into cycling…or has been cycling for a while. The ride offers a variety of route/ride options that have various skill and ability levels allowing us to better match rider experience levels so that there is something for everyone.  Most folks find that once they have done a number of real “slow ‘n easy” rides, they are looking for something a little longer and somewhat faster.  That’s why we offer at least 3 levels of rides…to give you a place to grow your skills.  All of our rides are “no drop” rides so you won’t get left behind.  Why not give it a try?

Tom Hotaling, who leads our highest ability challenge rides tells me that he will be using option #6, 24 miles and 1342 ft. of elevation change. So, all those of you who want to ride with Tom, you can look over the route and print out a route map for your own use from the club website.  You are welcome to try it before Tuesday and see if you like it.

This ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport. (Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership from 2016…you are not a member and must sign in as a guest.)  Guests are encouraged to join us on a ride and see if they like what we offer.  If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities during the year.  Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season.  Membership applications are available at rides or on line.

All riders are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides.  If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store.  No helmet…no ride...no exceptions…and our insurance requires it.  Riding without a helmet can be very dangerous.

So, join us this Tuesday evening for the next S’nE West ride.
