Hi Everyone,
OCC’s next Slow ‘n Easy West ride is scheduled for Tuesday August 1, 2017 and leaves from the west end parking lot of Reed Webster Park in Camillus, located on Warners Rd (Rt 173), promptly at 6:00 PM.
The forecast for Tuesday is “…Partly sunny”; temperatures will reach a high of 81. There is only a 23% chance of precipitation. So, it looks like it should be a good night to ride. Dress accordingly and bring ample water to stay hydrated.
Sorry about last week’s false alarm. Yes…no kidding this time…it is August. Wow, where did July go?
We are just entering into the month of August and there are not a lot of these Tuesdays left for us. If you want to try riding with the group, come on out this week. If you procrastinate too long, you’ll have to wait until next year. This season is passing us by very quickly.
What’s in a name? While our name may give people the impression that everyone is riding at a slow pace, the ride has evolved into a ride for all levels of cyclists…from beginner to experienced. The OCC Slow ‘n Easy West rides provide a fun cycling experience for anyone who wants to get into cycling. The ride(s) offers a variety of route/ride options that have various skill and ability levels allowing us to better match rider experience levels so that there is something for everyone. Most folks find they are looking for something a little longer and somewhat faster once they have done a few slow ‘n easy rides. That’s why we offer at least three or four levels of rides…to give you a place to grow your skills. All of our rides are “no drop” rides so you won’t get left behind. Why not give it a try?
Tom Hotaling, who leads our highest ability challenge rides tells me that he will be using option #6 ;24 miles and 1342 ft. of elevation change. So, all those of you who want to ride with Tom, you can look over the route and print out a route map for your own use from the club website.
This ride is open to all members of the club as well as guests who have an interest in the sport. (Remember, if you have not yet renewed your membership from 2016…you are not a member and must sign in as a guest.) Guests are encouraged to join us on a ride and see if they like what we offer. If they do enjoy the ride, then we invite them to become a member so that they can take advantage of all the other club rides and activities during the year. Our insurance only allows us to have guests ride once during the season. Membership applications are available at rides or on line. Remember, there are still a lot of OCC rides once the SnEW season closes…and hopefully we’ll have a nice mild and DRY fall.
All riders are required to wear a DOT approved bike helmet for these rides. If you don’t have one, you can buy one at your favorite bike shop or sporting goods store. No helmet…no ride...no exceptions…and our insurance requires it.
So, join us this Tuesday evening for the next S’nE West ride.
