SNEW logo.jpgHi Everyone,

Well, last Tuesday was a pretty ugly night to ride but I know a few of you got some miles in thanks to some willing volunteer leaders.  Thank you all! Let’s try it again this Tuesday.  The weather looks much better than last week.  The AccuWeather forecast for Tuesday shows “…Plenty of sunshine; pleasant..” weather with a high in the low 80s.  Good riding!

The ride will start from Reed-Webster Park in Camillus on Warners Rd at 6:00 PM as usual.  We will plan to have our choice of four rides with an easy Canal loop, easy highway loop, intermediate level highway ride and of course, since this is the last Tuesday of the month, a hill challenge coarse for our most experienced riders.  Tom H has planned to do the hillier option #1 for a total of 22 miles.  This should give your legs a bit of a workout.  The map can be found on the club website.  Since we have such a diverse following on Tuesday nights…the rides we offer are very diverse also.  If you have any ideas for alternate routes at the same levels, talk to the ride leader and give them your suggestions.  It might be something we can do.  We’re always looking for new routes.

Memorial Day will be behind us when we ride this week and all of you who have told yourselves that you were going to get out for one of these SnEW rides need to get on the stick and come out.  Be our guest if you are not a member…we would love to have you.  Member or guest, whatever, you owe it to yourself to try one of these rides.  Other than the experienced group, all the other rides are “no drop” rides…no one gets left behind.  If you have a bike in the basement or garage, pull it out, clean it up and check the tire pressure.  If you can’t handle this, take it to a local bike shop for First Aide.  If in doubt about which ride is for you…try the easiest and if it is too easy move up the next time.  Don’t deny yourself the fun of these rides.  There is still a lot of good riding left in the season.

Everyone needs to have a DOT approved helmet to ride.  Our insurance does not allow us to let you ride without one.  All bike shops carry them and they are reasonable in price for the protection they offer…think of dropping an egg on pavement!

Here are the details in a nutshell:

  Where:  Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (lot on west end near tennis courts)

                                        When:    Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp;  sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM

                                        Bring:     Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride;

   Dress:    Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this.  Be sure to have an approved helmet to ride.  No helmet…no ride.  Our insurance requires this.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all this Tuesday…especially those who are new to riding and want to try the canal…I’ll be leading that ride.  With the temperatures in the 80s please be sure to bring water or fluids to stay hydrated during the ride.

See you then,

Tony

PS:  The club is still sponsoring our “buy a new bike and get a free membership” promotion at local bike shops.  This is limited to first time members who have not been members previously.  Not good for renewals.
