Hi Everyone,
Today is Sunday and Tuesday is only a couple of days away. Start thinking about coming out to ride the Slow ‘n Easy West ride this coming Tuesday, June 26th, at 6:00 PM. We’ll be riding from Reed Webster Park in Camillus on Warners Rd. (Rt 173). Mike Lyon and I are usually in the parking lot around 5:30 PM for sign-ins. We plan to have our usual diverse mix of rides to hopefully cover all skill levels of those who come out.
The weather looks like it will be pretty nice for a ride. Accuweather is forecasting “…Mostly sunny; pleasant “ with a high temperature of 79o for the ride. Should be just right! Can’t beat that for a nice evening ride. It may be a long range forecast but I think the trend is in our favor.
Since the 26th is the last Tuesday of this month, Tom Hotaling plans to do the hillier option #2 this evening for a 22 mile experienced riders challenge. Mike Lyon will be doing one of his intermediate level rides with a range of 20-24 miles. He will probably have a map of the route but you can find Tom’s map on the club web site. Mark Perrin and his crew will have an easy 10-13 mile all highway route for our less experienced riders and I will be leading a 9-10 mile canal/highway route for newer riders. Other than Tom’s ride, the other three rides are all “no drop” rides…you won’t be left behind on a road you don’t know!
There have been several cyclists who have stopped to ask about our Tuesday evening rides over the last several weeks. While I tried to give my best “fifty-cent” synopsis of the ride and our club, you really have to come out and ride with us to get the real story. I hope these folks are reading this and decide to come out and ride with us as our guests this week. The old saying…”try it, you’ll like it” should apply. We always welcome guests. Our insurance only allows us to let guests ride once during the season. If you decide to join or you have yet to renew you membership from last year and wish to join or renew you membership you can do it on line: https://onondagacyclingclub.org/about/join-now/
The rest of you who have been procrastinating coming out should do it before the 4th. That will put us about half way through our SnEW season. There will still be a lot of club rides after we close down but now is the time to get out and do it for the SnEW. The days are already getting shorter since we passed the solstice last week. So, get that bike out of the garage or shed or basement and get it ready for a ride. Dust it down and check the tire pressures, brakes etc to make sure it is road ready and come out to the park this Tuesday. As I have said many times before, you don’t need special bike clothes or shoes…dress comfortably for the weather.
One thing we do require is that you wear a DOT approved helmet on the ride. You won’t be allowed to ride without one. You can find one in any bike shop and in most sporting goods stores or big box stores with a bicycle department. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get one unless you are looking for something glamorous or special. You won’t regret coming out for a ride. You’ll meet some great folks and have a lot of fun. I look forward to meeting you.
Here are the details in summary:
Where: Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (lot on west end near tennis courts)
When: Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp; sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM
Bring: Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride;
Dress: Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this. Be sure to have an approved helmet to ride. No helmet…no ride. Our insurance requires this.
See you all Tuesday evening,
Ciao,
Tony
PS: There will not be a Slow ‘n Easy West ride on Tuesday July 3rd because of the holiday. The park should be open so that anyone wishing to ride on their own are welcome to do so. We’ll be back with a club ride on July 10th.
