[occ2] Fwd: [occ2] Disturbing the eagles

I have have been stopped at least three times from riding the last 2 miles of the current trail because of a concert that was happening later that day. One of these times, the trail was closed at noon, blocked by a police car sitting on the trail a good 1/2 mile before the fence that surrounds the property. This was a Saturday, when there were many people on the trail.

The other thing is that coming from the east, it is more convenient, and less driving, to park at the east end of the current trail, in the State Fair parking lot just off the first 690 exit. But this, too, is closed when there is going to be a concert that evening.

Contrary to the assertion that are just a few concerts, this past season there were 31 concerts this past year (https://sjhamphitheater.com/past-events-2018/) between 6/2 and 9/14!  That's a full month of closings out of the 3.5 months during the summer when most cycling traffic occurs.

The loop the lake trail is supposed to be a draw for tourists, including those traveling through the area on the Erie Canal trail. Clearly, this is not good.  In Europe, they would make it easy to bike to the concert and it would be encouraged.  What a contrast.

There is a trails conference this coming Tuesday (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/visioning-voices-community-speaker-series-and-workshop-tickets-50400417004?). I'm sure I will address it, if no one else does.

Steve

It's a multi use trail and one of the uses is an occasional music concert.  Is it a minor annoyance?  Yes but the emphasis is on minor.  The rest of the trails, both paved & unpaved are open.  There's room for everyone.

Well given that cyclists aren't allowed to disturb the concerts that take place at the ampitheatre plopped right in the middle of the west side trail, I don't see much point in worrying about building a trail around the south end of the lake. I think the idea of a trail completely circling the lake was killed when they built that ampitheatre. My two cents.
