Hi Everyone,

He we go for the second week of the 2019 Slow ‘ Easy West rides.  I’m sorry last week’s weather was not the best, but it is Syracuse” L.  This week should be better if the forecast is close to accurate.  Accuweather is saying “A bit of morning rain; otherwise, low clouds.  High is projected at 57 degrees”.  What rain there is should be cleared out before the ride even though it might be a bit on the cool side.  Look forward to a better evening this week.

The weather has not been the greatest for riding so far but it does seem to be getting warmer and drier as we continue into the season.  Many of you have probably been reluctant to take your bikes out with the crazy weather, but give it a chance to improve which we all know it will and we’ll all be out there on our bikes.

If you have never been out for a SnEW ride yet, you are missing a fun ride.  Not too long or too short; not too hard or two easy…just right if you are getting out and riding again or just starting to ride this year.  We have a ride that will fit you.  You decide which ride to choose.  If it seems too easy move up the next time you come.  We even have a hard ride for those of you who are at that level.  What we don’t have are riders who get left behind.  Our regular rides are all “no-drop” rides so you won’t be lost on the road.  The only ride that is not “no-drop” is our hard ride or “challenge” ride.  Tom Hotaling, who leads this ride for our “hot wheels” riders says we will do ride #2 this week…the map is on the web site.

The other three ride choices are pretty easy.  One is about 10 miles along the canal path and then return on the highway with a second that is about 10 miles…all highway.  The last choice is anywhere from 16-20 miles on the highway.  The canal route averages around 8-10 mph while the 10 mile highway loop averages 10-12 mph.  The longer highway ride will average around 12-14 mph.  These are all approximates and depend greatly on the riders.  The last three are all “no-drop” rides!

Each week we welcome those who are new to the sport or have not ridden with a club or group previously.  If you are riding that same old loop around your development or have never ridden with a cycling group, why not come out and ride with us.  We welcome guests and ask that you give us a try.  If you like what we offer, then you can join the club.  We can only allow our guests to ride once as a ‘guest’…our insurance limits this.  There is only one other small requirement to ride with us and that is you must wear a DOT approved helmet…no helmet, no ride.

Here are the details for Tuesday’s ride:

   Where:  Reed Webster Park, Camillus, NY located on Warners Rd (Rt 173) (lot on west end near tennis courts)

                                        When:    Ride(s) leaves at 6:00 PM sharp;  sign-in starts at ~5:30 PM

                                        Bring:     Your bike, an approved helmet, water bottle and a strong desire to ride;

   Dress:    Whatever you are comfortable wearing on a bike… the weather will help dictate this.

Our group of volunteer ride leaders look forward to having you join them for Tuesday’s ride.  If you are taking you bike out for the first time this year, be sure to check tire pressures and make sure the brakes are working J.

Keep pedaling,

Tony and Mike.
