Hello to all my SOTR cycling friends!

One of my FAVORITE rides is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year on Saturday, Aug 3rd -- Mountain Mama Road Bike Challenge :)  Here is a facebook advertisement about their upcoming ride:

The 20th Anniversary Mountain Mama Road Bike Challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3rd in beautiful Highland County, Virginia. The yearly event features 2 States, 3 Counties, 9 mountains, 105 miles, and over 10,000 feet of climb. The challenge features 4 courses of different ability levels, they include:

Blue Grass Valley Ride: 27 miles of rolling valley hills
Two State Short Ride: 53 miles and 4 mountains to climb
Two State Long Ride: follow the century ride for 54 miles then add the Blue Grass Valley ride for a total of 67 miles with 4 mountains to climb
*NEW*- Metric Century- a modified version of the Two State Long Ride that offers additional climb and unbeatable views.
Century: 2 States, 3 counties, 9 mountains, over 100 miles and over 10,000 feet to climb

Mountain Mama features 6 fully stocked rest stops which provide food and drink to fuel your ride every 15-20 miles along the routes. SAG volunteers provide support throughout the ride.

Visit http://highlandcountyrecreation.org/mountain-mama-road-bike… for more information.

In August, the temperatures in Highland County are normally 10-15 degrees COOLER than other areas not in the mountains - so heat is not normally an issue  :)   The climbs of the mountains are anywhere from 1 to 5 miles long and the descents are a hoot!   There are currently 155 riders registered for the various routes - this event is the largest fund-raiser for the Highland County Parks and Recreation Department - let's knock this out of the park for them --  CAN WE GET 300+ riders for them this year???   Let's help them really celebrate their 20th with a HUGE number of riders :)

FREE CAMPING is offered FRIDAY and SATURDAY nights :)   Lots of Airbnb options in the area -- check out their website for lodging --  I promise you will LOVE Highland County!!!

I hope to see lots of SOTR jerseys there on the 3rd of August.

ALSO -- PLEASE PLAN of RIDING our INAUGURAL FALL RIDE --  Mission in Motion - Saturday Oct 12th --  register at:   https://www.bikereg.com/mission-in-motion.    ALL proceeds go to our Y's LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program -- this is a 12 week program for cancer survivors.  There will be options from a 10 mile Family ride to multiple (unique) loops of paved roads to ride anywhere from 20-100 miles, and an optional 52 mile Gravel loop (50 % gravel roads).

Happy Climbing!

Paula
