Message from the NYSBRA President

NYSBRA supports USADA Anti-Doping testing in New York!

I am very proud of NYSBRA’s role in  USA Cycling’s “RaceClean” anti-doping program for local associations, which was modeled after Florida’s program back in 2012.  In fact, (after Florida) NYSBRA was the very first local association to sign on to and fully fund anti-doping testing at our events!  NYSBRA has remained active every year to ensure continued testing at events selected by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).  Because secrecy is critical to effective testing at the amateur level, riders are usually not aware that USADA is present at an event until a chaperone notifies the rider that they have been selected for the honor!  USADA usually selects riders to test based on where they finished (e.g., “2nd place in the Cat 1-2-3 field”), randomly (e.g., “the Nth rider in the Masters 45+ field”), or by targeted selection (e.g., reported via USADA’s Play Clean Tip Center).

So far this year, USADA has tested New York riders at the Rochester Twilight Criterium (Pro Road Tour), Bristol Mountain Road Race (NYSBRA Road Race Championships), the Harlem Skyscraper Criterium, and the CRCA Mengoni Grand Prix in Central Park.  Well done, USADA!

Testing is expensive!  If you want to help us support clean racing, please donate $2 in BikeReg whenever you checkout or send anti-doping donations to NYSBRA using PayPal at treasurer@PROTECTED.

Have fun!  Race Clean!

Rider Tip: Your CX Racing Age is your “Road Age + 1”

With CX season starting up at the end of August, here is a reminder that your “racing age” is based on how old you are on the last day of the year in which the season ends.  The Road Race season ends in the fall so that means your “racing age” is the same age you reach on your birthday this year.  However, CX season ends next year (on the UCI calendar, anyway) so your “racing age” is the age you reach on your birthday next year… in other words, your current road racing age + 1!  The reason (USAC Rule 1C1)  is so you can race in the same age group all season and not mess up your national rankings or accumulated points in any race series.
