I wish you didn't write this email too. People should be responsible for themselves with the information available to them. There is no law passed by legislature prohibiting group rides. If OCC doesn't want to organize rides anymore, so be it. Cyclists still have the free will to ride with others if they find it beneficial to their health and well being.

Onondaga County is not a hotspot for Covid-19, and the economic and societal costs of overreaction can be more devastating than the disease itself.

I wish I didn’t have to write this message. But I’ve heard reports from several people that they have seen groups of cyclist on the road. This is not ok.


  • It’s not safe for the community. You can spread COVID when you don’t know you have it. You risk the lives of others including those on the front lines of this pandemic.


  • It’s against the law. The law states - Non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason (e.g. parties, celebrations or other social events) are canceled or postponed at this time


  • It adds to “cyclist bad reputation” in the community. It gives people another reason to dislike cyclists.


  • If it continues, it could be illegal to even ride solo. Paris has made it illegal to do any outdoor exercise.


Let’s do our part and only ride solo or with family members that you live with. We can help stop the spread of COVID-19.
