We had a pleasant evening for the Tuesday Time Trial. The temperature was a refreshing 73 degrees. The only downside was that persistent NW breeze that provided a bit of resistance over the first 6 miles of the course. Never the less, everyone put forth amazing efforts to be within shouting distance of their PRs.
Ten intrepid souls rolled to the start line Tuesday night. One was a guest from the Hamilton area. Welcome John! He just couldn't resist giving it a go on our super fast course. Maybe he'll join the club so he can do it again. Tiago Barreira cranked up his aerobic energy systems to blow through the course in a time of 22:22 (26.83 mph). His power meter indicated that he achieved his highest average power so far this year on the course. I won't reveal the number for the sake of privacy. His time was 22 sec off of his PR, so that indicates the course played a bit slow on Tuesday. But, that didn't stop Amy Kneale from breaking her PR from 2-3 years ago by 16 seconds. She rode her new steed to a time of 24:56 (24.07mph). She has the Fastest Woman Time for 2020. Our two juniors, Kaleb and Mariana, both put in huge efforts to be 11 seconds and 3 second off of their PRs. So close!
While it wasn't a "fast" night, we still had one PR and six others get within 24 seconds of their PR. That tells me that this crew is primed for some PRs if conditions can be more favorable. Next Tuesday is supposed be warm, but possibly a bit turbulent. We'll see how that plays out.
Special thanks go to Karrie Rinaldo for providing me with backup time stamps at the finish. Its nice to have a back up in case my laptop decides to take a nap on me.
What's coming ? The Tour de France!! it starts on Aug 29th. There is only one TT this year and it's on the penultimate stage. It's placed after 5 Mountain stages the previous week. Oh, and just add insult to totally fatigued muscles, it's uphill! As usual it could determine who ends up on the podium. Breaking news ! Froome and Geraint Thomas will not ride with Ineos in the Tour. They just haven't been in good form.
Til next week!
