As predicted the weather held up just fine as Mother Nature decided to not attempt to do battle with the OCC Weather Control System (patent pending).
The temps were around 83 degrees, the humidity > 70% and a 9mph NW provided a challenge for the first 3-5 miles.
Eleven TTers rolled to the line to test themselves in their Race of Truth. We had one newby, Welcome Eston! and a guest - regular TTer Dick Rybinski's son, Welcome Matt !
The Fastest Men's Time (FMT) was set by... drum rolllllllllll.......... Tiago Barreira ! Tiago sliced, diced and pureed the TT course in a near PR time of 22:09 ( 27.10 mph). Only 9 seconds from his PR set last year. The Fastest Woman Time was set by Karen Busse. She flew through the course in a time of 27:22 (21.92 mph). The fastest Road Aero time was set by Eston Adams who cruise through the course in a time of 26:32 (22.62mph). The fastest Junior was Kaleb Toscano.
Dick Rybinski was pushing so hard that he snapped his chain at the 3 mile mark. After finishing the TT course his son Matt rode to the 3 mile mark to fetch the car keys from Dick.. The thing is... Dick is rather industrious and was literally scootering with his left foot while clipped in with right foot. He had arrived to the start line as I pulled in. Unfortunately, his son Matt hadn't caught up to him before he had set off scootering and they never crossed paths. Hopefully he's still not out on the course.
TdF Notes: Cavendish gets his 33rd Stage win. One away from the great Eddy Merckx. I'll give Cav the best finishing sprinter ever title, but, certainly not the greatest cyclist of all time. Cav is much too one dimensional. Only one Green jersey to Sagan's seven for example. JMHO
Don't forget to record tomorrow's stage! Two runs up Mont Ventoux and then race down to the finish line at the bottom! Insane !
Enjoy!
