The conditions Tuesday night were decent -  temperature around 75 degrees and the wind died down to about 6mph NW.  Wind from this direction means some headwinds  in the open spaces of the first 3 miles and a little assist on miles 5 through 8.   I'd estimate the course speed rating was an 8.4/10.   Not quite as fast as last week.  The only downside was the swarming mosquitos at the finish line.  The worst of the season.

Eight TTers lined up to put forth their best effort in the Race of Truth.   The FWT (Fastest Woman Time) was garnered by Susan Andersson who sliced through the course in a time of 24:52 (24.13mph). She's been  very consistent.  Ben Rabin decided to ride his road bike with aero wheels to see how much difference there would be when compared to his TT bike.  He smoked the course with an FMT time of 24:59 (24.01mph).  I believe that is a course record for the RoadAero category.  The TT bike time last week was 1:32 (1.57mph) faster, but I think this week was 15-20 seconds tougher.  So the TT bike might be worth 1:15 (1.2 mph) over a RoadAero.    Team Toscano had super impressive rides !    Ken was only 3 seconds off his PR and Kaleb was the Fastest Jr with a PR time of 25:35 (23.45mph) - only 2 seconds behind Dad.  Again, these times with conditions that were good, but not ideal.    Everyone else put forth amazing efforts as well.

It's not too late to come on out and give the course a go.  You'll be happy you did.  After you do the first one, you'll be hooked.   We've probably got 3 more weeks left - weather dependent, of course.

Vuelta news:
Disappointing that Valverde had to drop out  after crashing on a descent when his front  wheel hit a small stone while negotiating a sharp turn.  42 years old and riding strong.

Last week I was extolling the talents of Magnus Cort Nielson.  I hadn't watched that day's stage... well he did it again, and won the sprint!   Unbelievable ability!   Plus, he's got a great name!

Yesterday's mountain  stage was a rare mano a mano between the two best riders.... Egan Bernal finally tried to make a major move about 40 miles from the finish and only favorite Primoz Roglic could match the move. They actually worked together to gain time on the other pretenders....  I mean contenders.   Roglic displayed his outstanding  form with 3 miles to go on the final climb and buried Bernal and finished about 1:30 ahead.  Bernal was gobbled up by the small contender group,  Roglic's team mate - young American Sepp Kuss beat the rest to the line  and finished 2nd !    Roglic is now in the red jersey.  Hard to imagine anyone can take it from him with the hard mountain stage today and a long TT coming up. Both in his wheelhouse. He  won the first TT.   Hopefully he won't have the misfortune of a crash.  This would be his 3rd Vuelta.

Today's stage has an  almost 5000 ft climb at the end.  I'm watching it now. They are almost to the final climb. Don't say anything about it til tomorrow.    It's a good one to watch if you can.

Now for the results of our local  superstars !
