It was a balmy humid evening for the TT. The breeze seemed to ease up and the clouds masked the sun - temps cooled to 83 degrees. But, the humidity was still rather stifling.
Five TTers rolled to the start line hoping their cooling systems were fine tuned for the conditions. Ron Nelson took the FMT honors with a time of 24:45 (24.25mph). I believe I saw a red streak on the road as Ron took off from the start. Fastest Junior, fresh off of XC camp, was Kaleb Toscano, who ran through, I mean, rode through the course in a time of 27:00 (22.22mph). Overall, with the exception of Sean Kesselring, the participants were about 45-60 seconds slower than normal. No doubt the humidity had a hand in that.
TdF notes
The Pyrenees tomorrow and Thursday should be exciting. Thursday includes a finish to the famed Hautecam ski resort. Two HC climbs of about 8-10 miles at 7-8% and a cat 1 of about 6 miles at 8%. Just for comparison; Sweet Road is about 6 miles at 3%
Vingegaard is looking pretty secure in the yellow jersey. I'm thinking Pogacar is likely to hold the 2nd slot unless he falters in the TT where Geraint Thomas could make up the small difference in time. I'm anticipating anyone in position 4-10 that is not on Ineos will aggressively try to take time out of Thomas. Look for Gaudu, Meintjes, Quintana to make big moves.
Au revoir!
