Hello:

My name is James Bondra. Sean Keesler and I are putting on a full brevet season this year consisting of rides starting from the Ithaca area.

If you have never ridden a brevet, they are rides where you follow a route of a designated distance,  get a brevet card signed or a store receipt, or answer a question at controles/checkpoints on the course. There is a time limit for each distance. You must average at least 15 kph/9.3 mph overall,  not Strava time. The rides are not races. Most riders are fully capable of completing such as challenge. Events are run rain or shine. There are no sag wagons or roving support. Part of randonneuring,  is being self-sufficient.

For more information, please visit https://distancerider.net/new/index.html to see the full schedule of events along with courses, ridewithgps routes,  and cue sheets. You may request to be a member of the Facebook Group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/927013607977742

We would love to see more women riding in our events. Last year there were two, but I know there are many women who are capable riders and might enjoy the challenge of our events.

To ride in any of our events, choose the event you wish to ride, and register with the Regional Brevet Administrator, Pete Dusel on the website. Registration information, cost, route information, etc. is found on the website and each individual event link.

  1. Join Randonneurs USA. You must be a member before the ride because of insurance. https://rusa.org/pages/memberservices
  2. The first events are 101k and 200k rides starting from the Lansing Ball Fields starting at 7:30 on Saturday, April 27th. There is no day of event registration. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to sign a waiver, pay registration, get your brevet card, and cue sheets. Events start on time. Clock is always running. The time limit for the 101k is 6:44 and for the 200k, 13 hours and 30 minutes.
  3. If you are riding the 200k event, you must have a reflective vest/sash and reflective ankle bands. You must also have a white front headlight and red rear taillight fastened to your bike. If you finish after dark,  which will be around 7:45 PM on that date without these items on and working, you may be disqualified.

If you have any questions, please contact me jbondra@PROTECTED or 607-220-4382 before 9 PM.
