Eight riders set out today to ride the flatlands east of the city - that were once the ocean floor of an inland sea - on the Happy Valley - McConnellsville century and shorter routes ride. Distances were quite varied for such a small group.
One intrepid rider rode the full century and was rewarded with a downpour for the final five or so miles. He describes it as “refreshing”. Another rider arrived at the start with a fully flat tire and managed to up the count to two - but still passed me at the 15 mile mark.
Four riders clocked a ride distance in the 50+ range. Other distances covered were 37, 71, and 67. Total miles: 488.
Pickup truck drivers have a bad rep with cyclists, but when i pulled over for a short break in the shade out in the hinterlands, one hollered out to see if I was okay. He gets my driver appreciation award for the ride.
