Mother Nature decided to play nice for us on the TT course. The temperature was a reasonable 81-82 degrees and the worries of rain evaporated in the last hour. Sticky yes. Stickier is faster, though. And as we gathered at the start I noticed a magical wind shift from the vaunted SE ! It was light, but definitely from the direction that I've claimed to be the fastest.
Four TTers who believed my last second email claiming the rain would miss the course rolled to the start line. We were treated with a captivating battle for the FMT title. Mike's and Mo's course PRs are only 2 seconds apart. Mo played the role of Mike's rabbit. Both evicerated the course and in doing so, each posted impressive PRs. Mike (Hop) took the FMT title with a PR time of 24:19 (24.67mph). He took an amazing 11 seconds off of his PR. Mo battled valiantly. He took 24 seconds off of last week's time and lowered his PR by 5 seconds - 24:27(24.54mph). Only 8 seconds from the FMT title. Jade took the FWT with an excellent 28:46 (20.86mph). That time was only 22 seconds away from her PR set in Sept 2025. She's got 3 months left to try to eclipse it.
The Tour de France starts on Saturday !! Watch it on Peacock. The first four day will be challenging.
Day 1: TTT - New Team Time Trial format in Barcelona. The last 4 finishers will get individual times that will consist of the team time. There is are two .5 climbs of 5% and 7% in the last 3 miles of the 12 mile TT that may create some small separation.
Day 2: Hilly - In the last 20 miles there will be 3 loops in Barcelona requiring a one mile climb of 9% each. This could get very interesting.
Day 3: Mountains - Pyrenees - this may be the longest stage.
Day 4: Hilly
Enjoy!
