No rain and reasonably cool temperatures made climbing up a gravelly Cowles Settlement Rd. only slightly more pleasant. Most of the 13 riders chose the 39 mile option. Tiago did 50 and got back only a few minutes after us. Another rider opted to do 58 by himself. Unfortunately there was an accident on East Lake Rd coming back when 2 riders’ wheels touched and, as usual, the person behind got the worst of it and went down. OCC women are tough though and, despite scrapes, cuts and bumps, she got back on her bike and pedal ...Continue Reading

I'm ride leader for Sunday's ride. If members are interested, I would like to tone down the hills in hopes of bringing out more riders. Of course, anyone who wants to do the original mapped ride should go for it if they want to. I'm open to any suggestions! My thoughts were to take a left at the end of Saw Mill Road so as to eliminate the steep climb up Moon Hill. Then follow Otisco Valley Road, and possibly some of the offshoots that run parallel to Otisco Valley ...Continue Reading

Hey Bob,Yes to your first paragraph. Take Oak Hill down instead of Otisco. It's Sunday ride, so extending from 39 to 44 miles to avoid having to slam on the brakes on a steep downhill for a left hand turn at a stop sign shouldn't be a problem. Oh, it would extend the 32 miler to 37 miles. I guess leave it as an option? As for Moonhill - Willowdale, I'm just noting the climb stats. I'm up for the suffering up the Category 2 climb. The other two ride distances (2 ...Continue Reading

Brian, Re the down hill on Otisco Road to the T at Otisco Valley: Were you saying to turn right on Oak Hill traveling NW, then turn left on Otisco Valley Road and ride south along the Otisco Lake and eventually intersect the original route? That sounds good to me if that is what you meant. I don't like steeps with stops at the bottom. Re Moonhill, I would like to do it, but if most are not up for it, that is fine too. I would rather have a good turnout! Moon Hill ...Continue Reading

Once again Brian’s weather system came to the rescue. Seven riders came to what turned out to be blue sky and mainly dry roads. I think this shows that Brian’s weather system actually works. He is very secretive as to where he got it.Five road Mike S’s option while 2 did a shorter ride. Total of 135 miles ridden with no issues at all. ...Continue Reading

I have a confession to make.... I had lost faith in the OCC Weather Control System (patent pending). While we are able to steer the red cells away from TT course, it appeared that light rain would ruin the evening. At 4:10 I sat down at my PC resigned to cancelling the Time Trial - I had typed CANCELLED in the subject of the email and I had typed in the whole rationale. I gave the proprietary weather system another look and decided there was still hope to salvage the night.Well, ...Continue Reading

Well, it appears the yellow edges of a red cell may pass close to the start line at 5:30pm The rest of the course appears to have only received light rain/showers. Bravo WCS ! The rain cells in general are moving NorthEast, so no precipiation will be on the course after 6pm. Should be clear until 9pm. I think that should be enough time to complete the TT !!I have delayed the start of the TT until 6:40 ish to let the roads dry out. If you ...Continue Reading

I'll head up to theTT course tonight. It appears the showers and light rain may creep onto the TT course 5:45 - 7:00pm . If our WCS fails to repel the rain, then we won't have the TT. But, it is possible that this precipitation will not hit the TT course. I would not recommend cycling to the start as there are rogue cells floating around. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
