Matt, Welcome to the club! As I'm sure you're finding, there are plenty of great local bike shops, so have fun on your search of a new road bike. There are no lack of local cycling related events to participate in, both competitive and non-competitive. One great resource is BikeReg, where you'll also find the registration page for the OCC IronMan 70.3 WarmUp. There are plenty of charitable events such as the Ride and Run for the Rescue, the Poi ...Continue Reading

Hi Matt! Welcome!Be sure to try lots of bikes before buying! You never know what’s going to be the “perfect” bike for you. I prefer older bikes as they’re WAY less expensive and fun to work on myself (and unless I lose about 50 lbs, the bike isn’t going to be the deciding factor on my performance). There are plenty of charity rides around CNY, and OCC usually has a team to ride with. June 12 is the Tour de Cure CNY, that has distances ranging from about 10 miles to the 62- and 100-mile routes that go around Oneida Lake. ...Continue Reading

Hey all, I registered for the club this week as I just started riding a few weeks ago (as a cross training option for running – and I found I like riding better J ). I am shopping for a road bike now – I really liked the Specialized Diverge I rode yesterday (not a true road bike but close) and will go out to B’ville today to ride a Cannondale (CAAD8 or Syanpse). I also plan to ride the Specialized Allez as well… When I started running, I signed up for a couple of 5K races and started training for them. I ...Continue Reading

It was a very pleasant night for the Time Trial last night. Temperatures hovered around 80 degrees with very low humidity. I was concerned about the wind as I was sweeping the course. The wind gusts felt like they were over 15 mph. It seemed that this might be one of the few nights that the wind would adversely affect the riders. By the time I got to the start and signed people in at 6:15ish, the winds had dropped appreciably. When the TTers set off it appeared to be about 5 mph fro ...Continue Reading

Good Morning All, …and what a great night it was to ride! We had a great turnout of riders with 54 members and one guest for a total of 55. This set a record for the season to date and beat our record of 54 for last season. Thanks to all who came out to ride. This record group rode a total of 931 miles for the evening. Our four different rides provided everyone a chance to chose a ride that fit their ability and interests. Tom Hotaling’s challenge ride for our experienced r ...Continue Reading
