Green Lakes State Park has recently acquired 260 acres of land on the eastern edge of the park. Green Lakes State Park will be developing a management plan for the new land and it will be amended into the existing management plan. A public hearing is being planned so that the public will have a chance to voice their opinions of how they would like to see the new property utilized. As a board member of CNY-DIRT, I am organizing an effort to develop single-track mountain bike trails on the newly acquired land. This initiative has been named the Green Lakes Area Mountain Bike Trail Plan (GLAMP). At this time, the initiative is focused on the newly acquired park property. The intent is to develop a trail network that includes trails within and outside the boundaries of the park, such as the recently built mountain bike trails at Duguid Park in Fayetteville.
A petition has been started to gather signatures of support for the proposed trails. The most effective action you can take is to sign the petition and share it with anyone else you feel would be supportive of these trails. The GLAMP initiative challenges everyone to share this petition with three people and challenge them to share it with three people. If you support this initiative it is critical to sign the petition!

The Central Park Region does not have extensive experience with development of mountain bike trails which has led to overly conservative environmental restrictions when developing mountain bike trails within Green Lakes State Park. To address this issue, CNY-DIRT is planning to develop a mountain bike trail plan for the development of new trails within the park. This plan will be co-developed with the park staff and will define criteria of sustainable mountain bike single-track trials. This plan has been discussed with with the Regional Park Manager and it has been acknowledged that the trail plan will be very useful in development of new trails within Green Lakes State Park. Having the trail plan in place will expedite the approval process for new trails as the decision making and the approval requirements will already be defined within the plan.
As part of this fundraising effort, CNY-DIRT is also allocating a portion of the donated funds to cover expenses (insurance, gas, consumables, etc.) for fat bike trail grooming to be performed within Green Lakes State Park by volunteers during the 2018-2019 winter season. Fat bike grooming will cover bike legal trails only and be focused on the Serengeti area.
A sign up sheet will be available at the GLAMP event for anyone interested in being involved in any level of this initiative. Individuals can connect with CNY-DIRT and become involved in the development of the plan as well as other trail initiatives in the area.
