[occ2] SnE West

July 19th 2021 MDT

Hi everyoneLooks like we will be watching the weather yet again, hot and chance of rain.  I believe that Karen Kelly will be there tomorrow.  But if not, those that want a shorter slower 15 mile ride I will be leading it.  If necessary, hope someone steps up to lead my ride, which will be the _Walters-East Sorrell Hill-Newport_ option, that we didn’t do last week (896 ft of climbing). Tom’s group will be led by Mike Schisvone and will be doing option 5.The PDF and GPS for both rides can be found here: htt ...Continue Reading

[occ2] Sunday Ride

July 18th 2021 MDT

Well,  the weather doesn’t seem to have worked out  clear direction.  It is raining here in he East Syracuse / Manlius area.  The forecast seems to be cloudy with +/- 40% chance of continued showers.   Given that it may clear and I don’t really know what it is doing in Tully, I will head on down to the start point at the high school in the event anyone shows up for the ride.   Bob Ravera   Sent from Mail for Windows 10   ...Continue Reading

[occ2] Sunday, Moon Hill detour

July 16th 2021 MDT

To avoid the lunar ascent of Moon Hill Road, I've attached a detour for anyone who would like to use it.  Follow the OCC Map to Otisco Road. Right on Oak Hill Road.  This avoids the steep descent to a stop at the bottom of the hill. Left on Otisco Valley Road  Follow Otisco Valley Road for about 9 miles. Left on Fuller Road.  Fuller Road becomes West Bennett Hollow Road Left on Preble Road Left on Route 11.  Follow Rt 11 into Tully. Left on Elm St. (Rt 80) to the Tully High S ...Continue Reading

[occ2] Friday ride report

July 16th 2021 MDT

No rain and reasonably cool temperatures made climbing up a gravelly Cowles Settlement Rd. only slightly more pleasant. Most of the 13 riders chose the 39 mile option. Tiago did 50 and got back only a few minutes after us. Another rider opted to do 58 by himself. Unfortunately there was an accident on East Lake Rd coming back when 2 riders’ wheels touched and, as usual, the person behind got the worst of it and went down. OCC women are tough though and, despite scrapes, cuts and bumps, she got back on her bike and pedal ...Continue Reading

[occ2] Sundays Ride

July 16th 2021 MDT

I'm ride leader for Sunday's ride.  If members are interested, I would like to tone down the hills in hopes of bringing out more riders.   Of course, anyone who wants to do the original mapped ride should go for it if they want to.    I'm open to any suggestions! My thoughts were to take a left at the end of Saw Mill Road so as to eliminate the steep climb up Moon Hill.   Then follow Otisco Valley Road, and possibly some of the offshoots that run parallel to Otisco Valley ...Continue Reading

Re: [occ2] Re: OCC Sunday TULLY ride that you are leading...

July 15th 2021 MDT

Hey Bob,Yes to your first paragraph. Take Oak Hill down  instead of Otisco.  It's Sunday ride, so extending from 39 to 44 miles to avoid having to slam on the brakes on a steep downhill for a left hand turn at a stop sign shouldn't be a problem.   Oh, it would extend the 32 miler to 37 miles.  I guess leave it as an option? As for Moonhill -  Willowdale,   I'm just noting the climb stats.  I'm up for the suffering up the Category 2 climb.  The other two ride distances (2 ...Continue Reading
